Seventh Annual Program in Innovative Remote Sensing Academic Research Opens Call for Submissions
Seventh Annual Program in Innovative Remote Sensing Academic Research Opens Call for Submissions
      April 24, 2012

2013 Alexander Goetz Instrument Support Program Sponsored by ASD Inc. Seeks Unique Remote Sensing Applications

BOULDER, Colo. -- April 24, 2012 -- ASD Inc., a global leader in high-performance analytical instrumentation and materials analysis solutions, is once again accepting registrations for the Alexander Goetz Instrument Support Program for the calendar year 2013. Student researchers from all disciplines involving remote sensing and field spectroscopy are welcome to register for ASD’s seventh annual academic research program.

The Alexander Goetz Instrument Support Program was named for ASD’s co-founder, Dr. Alexander Goetz, in recognition of his long-standing contribution to the study and advancement of remote sensing applications. A maximum of 10 recipients will be selected for their novel, unconventional and/or fundamental research efforts in the field of remote sensing. This annual program is designed to further encourage a creative research environment within the remote sensing and field spectroscopy worldwide community. Applications will be accepted beginning April 23.

ASD will offer the winners use of the industry-leading FieldSpec 4 Standard-Res or the FieldSpec HandHeld 2 spectroradiometers for remote sensing. ASD recently announced the FieldSpec 4 line of spectroradiometers for field spectroscopy with dramatically improved speed, performance and portability over previous models.

Students can request one of these spectroradiometers for a wide range of field research applications such as, among others, hyperspectral image interpretation and validation, oceanography, limnology, ecology research and multi-spectral remote sensing studies and analysis.

“I am honored to be part of such a wonderful program that recognizes the strong commitment of students pursuing their passions in reflectance spectroscopy research applications,” said Dr. Alexander Goetz, Co-founder, Chief Scientist and Chairman of ASD. “By incorporating our latest remote sensing instruments into the instrument program, we give future remote sensing leaders access to tools crucial for conducting their creative research applications.”

The program is intended for graduate students pursuing a masters or doctoral degree at an accredited college or university in the United States and all countries where Carnet documentation for shipments is accepted. In addition, each recipient is eligible for up to $500 to cover the cost of publication fees (if the resulting paper is accepted for publication in a scientific journal) and/or travel assistance for the presentation of an accepted abstract at a relevant scientific conference.

Proposals for the 2013 program are due no later than Oct. 15, 2012. Proposals should be inventive, opportunistic, and do not need to be of immediate practical application or have guarantee of success. Additional consideration will be given to proposals that bridge boundaries between traditional disciplines. All submissions will be reviewed by a prestigious interdisciplinary review committee chaired by Dr. Goetz, and winners will be announced in early December.  Additional information about the program and proposal guidelines is available on the Goetz Instrument Program page.
