Mineral Resources Exploration Short Course

September 24, 2011 - September 24, 2011

INTEGRATION OF FIELD SPECTROSCOPY, ASTER AND HYPERSPECTRAL TECHNOLOGY FOR MINERAL RESOURCES EXPLORATION

INSTRUCTORS:
Phoebe Hauff, Spectral International, Inc, ASTERImages, Inc.
David W. Coulter, PhD ASTERImages, Inc.
William Kerby Spectrum GeoSoluciones/Spectral International Inc.

COURSE CONTENT
The combination of ASTER satellite imagery and a field portable spectrometer is the most cost effective approach for reconnaissance exploration, particularly in arid to semi-arid terrain. In an increasing number of projects, these technologies are complemented by high resolution airborne hyperspectral imagery.

This one day course will focus on the applied use of a combination of remote sensing tools for exploration and will review the integration of imagery and field spectroscopy. A hands-on introduction to the use of a TerraSpec field spectrometer will be provided. Remote sensing topics will focus on ASTER and hyperspectral case histories.

Outline – General
Introduction to Reflectance Spectroscopy
Overview satellite -ASTER imagery
Overview hyperspectral imagery
Field Spectroscopy
Hands on operation of instruments

A DVD with Case studies, methodologies and handouts will be distributed to participants.

The course instructors have extensive experience in applied remote sensing and spectroscopy for mineral exploration programs. They have undertaken projects for dozens of mining and exploration companies throughout the world.
The course will be given in a combination of English and Spanish; Spanish translation will be provided as needed throughout the course.

Participants will be provided with a “Certificate of Completion” at the end of the short course.
