Analytical Spectral Devices, Inc. announces new award program for North American researchers

Boulder, Colo., August 3, 2006Analytical Spectral Devices, Inc. (ASD), the world leader in field-portable spectrometers and spectroradiometers announces the creation of the Alexander Goetz Instrument Support Program for North American researchers in the areas of remote sensing and field spectroscopy. The 2007 program is co-sponsored by the Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (GRSS), a member organization of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE).

The program offers temporary use of ASD field instruments (FieldSpec® 3, and FieldSpec® HandHeld) to a minimum of three, and maximum of ten, recipients each year for field work for graduate level research associated with an accredited North American University program. Additionally, ASD will provide up to $500 towards printing charges for resulting publication of findings of each recipient.

Proposals for the 2007 program are due no later than September 30, 2006. All submissions will be reviewed by a prestigious interdisciplinary review committee chaired by Dr. Goetz, and winners will be announced in late October. Additional program criteria and submittal guidelines are located on the ASD website.

The annual award program, introduced at the 2006 International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society Symposium (IGARSS) in Denver, Colorado, was established in honor of ASD’s co-founder, Dr. Alexander F. H. Goetz.  After more than twenty years at the University of Colorado as a professor, and director of the Center for the Study of Earth from Space (CSES), Dr. Goetz retired earlier this year. Dr. Goetz is a life-long contributor to, and world-renowned expert in, the field of spectroscopy and remote sensing and he has now joined ASD full-time as Chief Scientist, and remains Chairman of the company.
