BOULDER, Colo. – April 12, 2010 – Building on its 20-year reputation of providing analytical spectroscopic instrumentation for the most demanding scientific and commercial users, ASD Inc. today introduced the FieldSpec HandHeld 2 spectroradiometer. ASD introduced the world’s first portable spectroradiometer to the market in 1990. Since then, FieldSpec HandHelds have become the instruments of choice for a variety of academic and commercial applications.
The FieldSpec HandHeld 2 is now the premier portable spectroradiometer for agriculture, forestry, mining and oceanography. Using ASD’s cutting-edge, near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy to instantly and nondestructively measure samples, the HandHeld 2 further revolutionizes onsite measurement by providing extremely precise, quickly derived data in a variety of settings. Among other improvements, the HandHeld 2 eliminates the need for continuous attachment to a computer through the addition of an on-board display and enhanced computing power.
“There’s a reason that ASD instruments are cited in more scientific papers and peer-reviewed journals than any other near-infrared spectroscopy instruments on the market,” said ASD CEO David Rzasa. “We’ve designed our company around the imperative of providing fast, laboratory-grade results to researchers in the field. The FieldSpec HandHeld 2 extends that legacy of performance to scientists and commercial users whose efforts depend on the fastest and highest-quality results.”
Both the HandHeld 2 and HandHeld 2 Pro feature integrated color display screens, and built-in DriftLock™ shutter for accurate dark current compensation and faster scan times. The ruggedized unit weighs less than three pounds, measures 215x139x88 mm, and uses rechargeable AA batteries.
The HandHeld 2 instruments measure in a wavelength range of 325 – 1075 nm with a resolution of <3.5 nm at 700 nm. The Pro model yields scan and data collection rates that are three times faster than the standard model, using a high-sensitivity 512-element photo-diode array spectroradiometer.
The HandHeld 2 continues ASD’s state-of-the-art legacy in portable NIR measurement capabilities, saving scientific and industrial users labor and data collection time by providing instantaneous results for the widest variety of applications.
Established in 1990 in Boulder, ASD Inc. is the global leader in high-performance analytical instrumentation solutions, solving some of the most challenging real-world materials measurement problems.
